  • shaping communities one page at a time

This is Innovation and Creativity driven by the very need for survival. Tackling poverty through environmental friendliness. This is a journey inspired by hope, faith and perseverance. The Green Publishing Initiative (GPI) is a Zimbabwe-based project, "shaping communities one page at a time" which advocates for the sustainable re-use of published products such as magazines, expired promotional stationery etc.

GPI works with poor communities to achieve this cause - We encourage and empower poor women to recycle old magazines and corporate publications into paper beads. These in turn are used to make fashion accessories, corporate gifts etc. (See Store)

GPI uses its global network of publishers and organisations to activate global markets for these women's recycled products. One of the most innovative co-operatives we've worked with to date is the Moving Mothers Co-operative in Bulawayo's poor township of Njube, the group is composed of widows and other underprivileged old women in Zimbabwe.

    Global Markets

    Working with women's cooperatives

We work with well wishers and donors to help women who recycle magazines into paper beaded products find new global markets for their recycled magazine crafts. We are reaching out to corporations and world leading magazine publishers to show their care for the environment and women living in poverty.

    Empowering Women

    Training and Employment Creation

Our vision is to create employment for women in the poor communities of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe by training them in simple business skills, building and creating brands for them including many business services poor women in the informal sector lack. We help and advise them on quality control, costing and basic business principles. One of the co-operatives we work with is Moving Mothers, a group of widows and underprivileged old women led by Nancy Madyara and Esnat Moyo.
